Background

The rapid development of technologies and societies forced the government and the public sector to do more with less. They are waking up to the vast potential of data science as a way to improve efficiency, make better spending decisions, and predict future trends. Governments need to utilize data-driven tools to optimize their work and enhance the security, public sector, and even national economy.

Based on the World Bank and McKinsey research, Indonesia needs up to 9 million workers related to big data for 2015-2030. In other words, the average human resource needed is 600,000 per year. This includes the needs of human resources in data, specifically in the governmental and public sectors. As the United Nations (UN) e-Government Survey 2020 has placed, Indonesia is currently at 88th out of 193 countries to develop and implement e-government or an electronic-based government system (SPBE).

The fast evolution of digital governance is expected to help Indonesia win the global competition. In this session of the Data-Driven Series, Algoritma will invite Data Science practitioners from several independent organizations in Indonesia.
