Algoritma was founded in 2016 by Samuel Chan, who had sold his previous startup (HyperGrowth) to focus full-time on growing Indonesia's data science ecosystem at a time when the field was in its infancy and programming talents were scarce. Samuel enlisted the help of co-founder Nayoko Wicaksono and together they launched Indonesia's first Data Science Bootcamp.
- First Data Science bootcamp in Indonesia, and first in the region to license our curriculum to universities and training partners in neighboring countries. Courses from Algoritma are taught in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore), Universitas Prasetiya Mulya(Indonesia), Hubba(Thailand), NTUC Learning(Singapore)and more under train-the-trainer partnerships.
- Grew the company into a team of 50+ data scientists in the instructor team, along with support and operations staff.
- Within the first 3 years, Algoritma has trained over 3000+ professionals from more than 500+ companies across Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
- Samuel is the first in Asia to receive the RStudio Certified Trainer designation, and 4 of our instructor team rounds out the only RStudio Certified Trainers in Indonesia as of 2025.

New Leadership Team for a new Growth Phase
Leadership shake up at Algoritma, with Samuel Mulia CEO, Isna Armawati COO and Dyah Nurlita Head of Product being promoted into key leadership positions, and Samuel Chan retaining his role as Founder and CTO. Former co-founder Nayoko Wicaksono stepped down to serve as an advisor.
Strategic Partnership with Supertype
Along with this restructuring, Algoritma becomes a sister company of Supertype, a leading AI research and development firm. This partnership vastly expanded Algoritma's reach and capabilities in the AI space and business-to-business offerings, allowing us to be aholistic enterprise L&D partnerby combining world-class AI education (Algoritma) with consulting services (Supertype) and Intelligence solutions (Sectors).
